It’s time again for Open House in Waldport!

Thursday, July 1st 10am to 2pm at Lee Palmer’s building

Community Quilters announces Stuffing September!

One of the easiest things we do is provide pillows for the Samaritan Pacific Hospital in Newport.  They’re used in the many units of the hospital including Cardiology and Pediatrics.
We commonly use orphan squares or blocks from 9 to 14″, finished pillow can be square or rectangular.  But we have so much scrap fabric, we could make it simpler and just sew two pieces together.
So here’s how it works.  Pick up fabric in July and August, sew together with an 4″ opening for stuffing and bring them back in September (or October).  We got a great deal on a HUGE box of fiberfill,   You can stuff them at Open House and we will sew them closed or we will hold
for later.  There will be pillow kits available or you can pick out from our many scrap fabrics.
Another good idea is to make practice squares for a quilt you’re working on or a block you always wanted to try, then sew a back on it to make it a pillow.  I’m going to try some of those Disappearing blocks from the Questioning Quilter who spoke at our meeting recently.  They don’t have to be perfect.
ALSO
We are in need of some flannel baby blankets.  These are made from one yard of flannel with the edges turned over and sewn.  Anyone who’s been to to our Workroom knows we have a ton of lovely flannel to choose from.
If you have any questions or would like me to drop off some fabric for you to help with the two above projects, please contact me.
Thanks so much!

Veterans Project

Just a reminder our SEW IN DATE HAS BEEN CHANGED TO AUGUST 18, 10AM – 4PM Siletz Grange.  Please mark your calendars for the third Wednesday of each month September,  October, and November for the next sew ins.  Thanks!!  We have taken a bit of veteran quilt time away for our families and summer.  We still continue to work for our veterans when our time allows and please continue to help us as you can.  I know of six to be presented after July 5!    To bring us up to date we have presented 12 since June 12th.   Betty will restock the block kits at the Cove after July 3rd.  Thanks for your support.  We certainly appreciate it.
