Larger Sized Quilts Needed for My Sister’s Closet

The members of the Community Quilters committee have been brainstorming how we could achieve the goal of 10 quilts for My Sister’s Place in Newport.  This is such a worthy cause especially since it helps women right here in our community.  Here is a statement that describes the organization.

From Greater Newport Chamber of Commerce Facebook Page:

My Sister’s Place has been serving Lincoln County since February 12, 2080.  Their First Shelter consisted of a small family rental home in Lincoln County that also housed the business office.  Since then, My Sister’s Place has moved office and shelter locations several times, eventually moving to the current advocacy office in Newport, building a brand new shelter facility in 2003, and completing a pet kennel adjacent to the shelter in 2009 that enables clients with pets to access shelter.  Formerly Women’s Crisis Intervention Services, we adopted our previous organization name in 2001: My Sister’s Place.  934 SW 8th St., Newport, OR 97365 (541)994-5959

They are now renovating that building and need quilts.  Amongst our committee we have one new quilt, two gently used quilts being donated, one top and one commitment to make a top.

We hereby announce the Friendship Sewing Groups Challenge to make one queen size quilt top for My Sister’s Place.  Community Quilters can supply the fabric, strips, patterns or block kits.  You choose the pattern and color scheme and let us know how we can help you complete a quilt top.

You can also form your own group for this project if you want.  Simply cutting 10″ or 12″ square or alternating them with pieced squares would be good.

Of course, we have lots of fabric at the workroom in Waldport. Even though we just told you we we busting at the seams, we have received two generous donations of lovely fabric.

First Thursday Open House is on May 5th, 10am to 2pm at Lee Palmer’s Tax Service, 260 West Willow St in Waldport.   Directions from 101, turn East (away from ocean) on Hwy 34, Turn right on Cedar, right after 2nd bank (WaFed), left on Willow, blue building on corner.

if your group cannot make the meeting, we’ll be glad to deliver fabric to you or meet you at the workroom so you can choose it yourself.
