Oregon Coastal Quilters Special Executive Board Meeting November 14, 2019

The Special Executive Board Meeting held at Atonement Lutheran Church was called to order by President, Diane Tillotson at 10 a.m.  A quorum was present.

Minutes

A motion to approve the September 19th and October 17th Executive Board Meetings was made by Jane Szabo and seconded by Debbie Mosley.  The motion was passed by a voice vote.

By Laws Change – Pg. 51, Article V, Sect 4c.  Recommend the following change, no comma after the word website. Motion was made by Nan Scott and seconded by Darcy de la Rosa.  Motion was passed by a voice vote and will be presented at the November 14, 2019 General Membership Meeting.

2020 Challenge Quilt – Jean Amundson presented a challenge proposal – Votes for Women!

The year 2020 will be the 100th anniversary of the constitutional amendment (the Nineteenth Amendment) giving women the right to vote. (Actually, it states that the right to vote can not be denied on the basis of sex).

Proposed rules:

1. The quilt must speak to the idea of women being able to vote, or that they cannot be denied that

     right.

2. Quilts must be no larger than 30” in any dimension.  They may be smaller if desired.  Total circumference may not be more than 120”. 

3. Embellishments are welcome but not required.

4. All quilts must be made entirely by the entrant.

5. A card with the name of the quilt must be pinned to the lower front right hand corner.  The quilt-maker’s name must be on the back of the quilt, covered with a piece of paper.

6. Quilts must be brought to the June meeting in a brown bag and will be voted on at the June and July meetings.

A motion to accept the Challenge Quilt presented by Jean was made by Ginger Dale, seconded by Darcy de la Rosa and passed by a voice vote and will be presented at the General Membership Meeting on November 14th for a vote by the General Membership.

Budget – Treasurer Janet Sylvester presented the proposed 2020 Budget.  After discussion a motion to accept and recommend approval of the 2020 Budget for $63,629.00  to the general membership was made by Ginger Dale and seconded by Gail Chipman.  The motion was passed by a voice vote.  Nan Scott will present the budget to the General Membership at the November 14th meeting.

Next Executive Board Meeting will be as scheduled on November 21st at 10 a.m. at the Carriage House in Newport.  There will be no Executive Board Meeting in December.

Nominating Committee – Meralee Wilson reported that Toni Brodie has agreed to be  the Guild Secretary at the General Membership Meetings and Marian Brown will be her substitute for the Executive Meetings.  The following slate of officers for 2020 will be presented at the November 14th General Membership Meeting: President – Diane Tillotson; Vice President – Meralee Wilson; Secretary – Toni Brodie; Treasurer – Janet Sylvester.

Committees

Merchandising – Rose Shaw reported they are waiting for picture from Dennis which should be received in early 2020.

Communications – Mellissa Hollenbeck reminded the group to get information for the BLOG in a timely manner, should be submitted to her by Sunday.

Other committee reports will be made at the scheduled Executive Board Meeting on November 21st at 10 a.m.
