Twylla Hoch Remembered

Twy-HochTwylla Hoch (our much-loved Twy) died in her sleep the night before Thanksgiving. Her death was unexpected.

Twy was a charter/first-year member of our guild (1991) and was selected as Featured Quilter in 2005. She just knew that everyone would enjoy quilting, and her enthusiasm spilled over into countless students and “recruits”.

Twy was inspired to start the Lincoln County Documentation project by the efforts of the Yamhill County quilters. She led the group for ten years, and the project is still going strong many years later. She was also a dedicated supporter of the Veterans’ Project and Community Quilters, and every member of her family as well as many friends and former Home Ec students has at least one of her quilts! She and her quilts also visited the SeaAire Assisted Living Facility in Yachats many times.

The guild’s many trips to the Oregon State Fair where we demonstrated our craft were organized by Twy, and she always encouraged OCQG members to enter the Lincoln County Fair, too. Twy was also one of the original members of the Bayshore Quilters, where she taught people how to hand quilt and gave helpful and supportive advice.

Her legendary banana bread often accompanied her to her various quilt-related activities, and everyone who tasted it said, “best banana bread ever!”

Twy will be missed, for sure.
