Important Updates

Community Quilters Update

In lieu of making announcements at our guild meeting on Thursday to give more time to our special program, I’m sending out this update on what’s happening with your Community Quilters.

Here’s our needs right now:

Stuff to make – We will have lots of options at our table at the guild meeting.  We have patterns for teddy bears for the kids at the hospital, patterns for burp rags, patterns for the newborn Christmas stockings, material cut for tote bags, quilt top kits that need to be put together, quilt bundles (top, batting, backing) that need to be sandwiched and quilted, and quilts that need binding and labels.  Please stop by and select an item or two to take home and complete.  Our biggest need is to have quilts quilted, and we are happy with both machine quilting and tied quilts.

Volunteers – I am in need of 3 or 4 more members to help with organizing and distribution of the items we make.  I am also really in need of a co-chair to take over when I am away or can’t make the meetings.  It is my goal to assign a member to each of the agencies we support to spread out the responsibilities of this committee.  We are having a meeting at 4:15 at the church before the guild meeting this Thursday.  Please attend if you are interested!  If you can’t make the meeting, but are interested in helping out, please let me know by email.

Statistics – To date, we have 48 quilts in inventory and have distributed 60 quilts.  We have also distributed 25 tote bags, 8 sit-upon pillows for kids, 35 burp rags, 35 pillow cases and 22 pillows for the hospital (21 from the Children’s Corner).  We have made distributions to the following:  Seashore Literacy, Samaritan House, My Sister’s Place, Foster Parents’ Association, Newport Hospital, Calvary Baptist Soup Kitchen, Children’s Advocacy Center, and Habitat for Humanity.  All of these agencies are located in Newport, and I am sure there are needs in Lincoln City, but I have not been able to identify them – again, I am asking for your help here!

Thanks to everyone who has attended our 1st Thursdays!  We have had exceptional turn-outs and we sure get a lot of stuff done, plus have a good time communing with our fellow quilters.  Please join us on October 4 at Ruth’s in Waldport from 10 to 2 or come and go as you like.  See you then!
