August 2019 OCQG General Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President, Diane Tillotson at 6pm.

Announcements

A thank you was received from the Lincoln County Historical Society for the donation from outreach.

Great coverage of Guild in the News Times article on the Quilt Show and the Chamber of Commerce Newsletter did a new member feature on the guild.  Thank you from Waldport High School Health Center and a thank you from James Stewart for the beautiful Veterans Quilt.

Minutes

Shirley Gilmore moved for acceptance of the July General Meeting minutes.  Motion was seconded by Carol Culton and passed by a voice vote.

Twy Hoch reported that 17 Guild members will be doing a quilting demonstration at the Oregon State Fair on August 30th.  

Committees

Finishing School – Paulette Stenberg announced it’s time to start projects for next years Quilt Show and remember to bring a lunch.

2019 Raffle Quilt – Jane Szabo reported all tickets from members were returned. Sales breakdown,

Membership $2079, Facebook/Articles $105, Local Shops & Outside Shows $1697, Quilt Show $1383.

Ruth’s Family Fabrics  $252.

Membership Sales – lst Place – Ginger Dale –  307; 2nd Place – Eve DePaolo – 136.  Both winners received a Gift Certificate to Ruth’s Family Fabrics in Waldport.

Challenge Quilt – Phoebe Hein reported that particiption ribbons would be available at the next meeting.

Veterans Quilts – Twy Hoch reported that on September 20th there will be a Veterans Quilt Project at Bayshore from 10am-4pm.  If you made a medallion, come and turn it into a quilt.  Bring your sewing machine and sack lunch.  There will be an October Sewing Party in Newport.

There have been questions about how a veteran can get on the list for a quilt.  An information slip  needs to be filled out, veteran needs to live in Lincoln County.  Needs to have an honorable discharge and does not need to have been in combat.  31 veterans are currently on the list.  American Legion contact is Shirley Gilmore.  Form is on the Guild website under Forms & Records.

Membership – Ruth Johnson reported that we now have 206 members in the Guild and 2 guests at the meeting.  Extra Quilt Show booklets are available at the membership table.

Program/Workshops – Janet DeSau announced a change in the schedule, there will not be a “pie social” in September.  The program will be “sometimes a great notion”, a meeting of demonstrations and give aways.  October program will be Mister Domestic,  check out on you tube. “Thinking Outside the Box Pillow” workshop $30.

2020 Retreat – Georgia Sabourin reported there is a waiting list, next month is deadline for $50 non refundable deposit.

Program

Jean Amundson, Darcy De la Rosa and Jackie Stankey, Quilt Show Chairs gave a “wrap-up”  of the 2019 Quilt Show.  A big THANK YOU to everyone that participated and helped to make the show outstanding.  Statistics for the show will be posted on the BLOG.  Jean had a bag of “lost & found” items, a poster, jacket, treasure hunt prize and a grab bag from the Boutique. Small Quilts made approximately $900 in sales and half of the proceeds will be sent to Food Share Lincoln County.

The Viewers Choice winner was Cindy McEntee’s “Hibiscus Aloha” quilt.  There were 11 quilts sold off the floor and lots of good comments were received about the use of the square.

THE PARADE OF WINNERS was a sight to behold as the quilts were marched thru the aisle at the meeting.  What an amazing show of different types and sizes of quilts. Show winners are posted on the BLOG.  Congratulations to everyone!

2020 Raffle Quilt – Quilt is finished and was displayed at the show after the drawing for the 2019 Raffle Quilt.  A chairperson is needed to head up ticket sales.

Show & Share

Janet Childers shared a special military themed quilt that she made for her great nephew who is currently serving in the military.

Quilters Surprise 

Vivian Johnson won a cutting mat cleaner and a “stash it – grab it & go” organizer.

Nifty Notions

Vivian Johnson won a Gift Certificate for a pair of Fiskers spring loaded scissors.

SABLE – Teecia Cornelius announced September fabric is green and purple.

Winners were Kathleen Holt, Janet DeSau, Lana Pries, Beverly Hergenrader and Pam Grindell.

Block of the Month – Merralee Wilson said the squares are going into a community quilt.  Next month is a surprise Garden Block.

Rec Center  – Diane Mosley will have quilts for pick-up at the September meeting.  Please bring Fall Quilts next month and in December, Blue Christmas quilts.
