Favorite and new notions will be presented, demonstrated and given away!!!  Yes, you could have a winning ticket!  This new program will replace the pie social but there will still be goodies served.  You may find a new tool or notion that you not only love, but get to keep!

I went to the Oregon State Fair with the Bayshore Quilters.  I took some photos of quilts there and am sharing them in this post.  I’m sorry but I neglected to get the maker’s names but they are very beautiful.

September:  Nature Theme

Teecia Cornelius will be collecting 1-3 fat quarters at the September meeting.  We pool the fabrics collected and have a drawing. Winner takes all!

Membership

An update to the 2019 directory will be available at the Guild meeting September 12th. It will include information about the online directory.

The Guild now has 206 members as Sally Ann Morris, Newport joined. Welcome Sally Ann and come to the meetings when you can.

Fall Recreation Center Quilts

Debbie Mosley will be collecting fall themed quilts at the September meeting.  The quilts need a hanging sleeve and an identification tag of some sort on the back. Debbie would appreciate ideas for other themes for the coming year.  Here’s a link to the planned 2019/2020 Rec. Center Themes.

BUDGET REMINDER

Budgets are due by the general meeting on September 12.  Please bring your budget to the meeting or email to Janet Sylvester.

VETERANS PROJECT NEWS

I will be bringing the challenge blocks to the September meeting.  If you would like to take back your block you can pick it up at the meeting or if you want it back and won’t be at the meeting, let me know (Ginger) and I will set it aside.  There is no pressure to take your block back, we won’t make you stand up and get 40 lashes.  The extra blocks will go to our workshops and be made into quilts.   Also you will be able to pick up your participation ribbons at the next few meetings or workshops.

Our next workshop is Sept. 20 at the Bayshore clubhouse in Waldport.  10:00 AM to 4:00PM at 1512 NW Oceania Dr. North of Waldport Bridge. Bring your Sewing Machine and tools you need when sewing and a lunch.   Be ready for a FUN DAY!   Call Twy Hoch if you have questions.

We hope to see you there.  If you are going to make your quilt from your block at home, you are welcome to come to Bayshore or another workshop and get some fabric and/or smaller blocks to go with your block.

Twy Hoch and Ginger Dale

Community Quilters

Don’t forget that we are now back to our regular schedule, and meeting this coming Thursday at Ruth’s Family Fabrics in Waldport from 10 to 2.  Bring your lunch or plan to go out to one of the local stops right there in Waldport.  We’ll be working on a variety of items, but you don’t need to bring your sewing machine.  It’s been since April since we met!
We are in need of pillowcases in teen boy and girl motifs.  Pillowcases seem to be a very popular item, so please keep them coming!
We are also still on the hunt for someone to act as “liason” between this committee and the Newport and Lincoln City school nurses.  We have given quilts to school districts in the south and east county for use by kids who come to the nurse not feeling well.  We all know the warmth and comfort that our quilts provide when we are under the weather!
We are also looking for someone to work with the Siletz schools and also with the Tribe to ascertain their needs and provide them with quilts or anything else they may need.  Please contact Sue at 661-904-8130 or email at sooze@pobox.com if you are interested.
Thanks, and hopefully we will see a bunch of you on Thursday

Documentation

Documentation is Sept 14th at the Carriage House.  The schedule is full but you might want to come and visit and see the beautiful quilts.  We are there from 9:30 to 4:00.  We do have openings for the Oct 12th day and it will be the last one for this year.  You might find this is something you would like to get involved in for next year.  We document 5 times a year on Saturdays.

Thanks,

Evelyn DePaolo

Finishing School

Finishing School will be meeting September 26 from 10 to 4 at the Carriage House at the Lincoln County Historical Museum at 545 SW 9th St., Newport. It is a great time to work on a project without being interrupted. You may bring your machine or hand work we will have an iron there for you to use. You may come at any time and stay as long as you like. Bring a sack lunch or go out what ever you would rather do. It is also a great way to get to know other guild members and get help on a project that you need advice on. Fun time is had by all.

In case you missed this notice.

Former member, Joyce Crawford, passed away on July 22. Her family has invited any members to attend her Celebration of Life on Saturday, September14, 2-4pm, at the Albany Senior Center. “We would love to share this day with you.”

Joyce Crawford’s family will also have a garage sale including 4 tables of quilt supplies and fabric on Aug 24-25, 9-5 at 2004 Lafayette St SE, Albany, OR.

I remember Joyce working hard at our Quilt Show in the past.

Passing this along,

Happy Labor Day

Remember when Labor Day signaled the end of all our summer play?  It’s still not too late to take a walk on the beach and dig in the sand a little.  You’re never too old to kick off your shoes and feel the sand between your toes!
