March Program

Community Quilters will be in charge of of the guild program on March 14.  Sue Stephenson will be speaking for a  few minutes about how the Community Quilters Committee functions, and speak to our most urgent current needs.  Community Quilters will have speakers from the following organizations:  Foster Parents Association; Children’s Advocacy Center; Head Start; and The Gabriel Project.  The representatives will be talking about what their agencies do, how they do it, how our donations have helped them in the past, and how we can best serve them going forward.  We will have speakers and lots of displays and examples of what we donate to various agencies.

Also, Twy Hoch will be previewing our all new Pet Beds, which she will teach you how to make at the Workshop on March 23 from 9 am to 3 pmThis will be held at Atonement in the Fellowship Hall, just like other workshops.  We will also be teaching how to tie a quilt, and we encourage anyone to bring their sewing machine to put together tops and pillows. If you are a new quilter, this is a great opportunity to learn how to put a quilt together!  We are providing pizza for lunch and you just need to bring whatever you want to drink.  It will be a really fun day and a great time to get to know other members a little better.  More info will follow as the date approaches!

Merchandising

Stop by at the General Meeting and see the cute items for sale.

Community Quilters

Community Quilters – Thanks to all the members who made the little bags for Oncology and Cardiology.  Both departments are well stocked now, and we have received many comments on how lovely they are and such a variety!  I’m accepting any that you have made, but let’s now  focus our sewing skills on some other items for awhile, like burp cloths!  We also are accumulating a lot of quilt “bundles” that need quilting.  They can be tied or machine quilted, both are great, we just need to get them completed.  I will have them available at 1st Thursday at Ruth’s, and of course at the guild meeting as well.

Don’t forget to come to Community Quilters on March 7 from 10 to 2 at Ruth’s Family Fabrics in Waldport.  Hope to see you there!

Documentation

The next documentation will be on April 13th.   If you are interested in learning about the documentation process come by and observe.  The June 8th Documentation has been changed to May 18th at the Carriage House in Newport.  If you are interested in having a quilt documented contact Twy.

Finishing School

Finishing School will be meeting on March 28 from 10 to 4 at the Carriage House at the Lincoln County Historical Museum at 545 SW 9th St, Newport. It is a great time to work on a project without being interrupted. You may bring your machine or hand work and we will have an iron there for you to use. You may come at any time and stay as long as you like. Bring a sack lunch or go out, whatever you would rather do. It is also a great way to get to know other guild members and get help on a project that you need advice on. A fun time is had by all!

Quilt Show

Getting Ready for the Show!

Do you have some quilts ready to enter in the 2019 Quilts by the Sea show? Good for you (mine are still in process). The quilt show committee has decided to keep the same categories as the 2018 show, so feel free to look them over and decide where your quilts fit in. Simply go to the guild website, look under “Events,” then “Quilt Show,” and then “Registration Policies and Categories.”

If you click on “Categories,” you’ll get the Category Decision Tree that walks you through the decision process for where your quilts should go. Click on “Policies,” and you’ll find the rules for entering and the descriptions of each category. In fact, you can check out all this information even if your quilts aren’t finished!

We hope to open registration mid-March or early April. Meanwhile, if you have questions, contact any of the quilt show co-chairs (Jackie Stankey, Darcy de la Rosa, and Jean Amundson), registrar Melissa Hollenbeck, or registration computer person (this is not an official title) Nan Scott.

SABLE

Bring in 1-3 fat quarters of 30’s – 40’s fabric

Veteran’s Quilt Project

There will be a sewing party in Newport.  The date is yet to be set.

Retreat

The 2019 Retreat Committee would like to thank everyone for making it a fun Retreat.  I would like to make a request of everyone:

The following quilt shops contributed Gift Certificates for our Retreat.  The next time you stop by please thank them for contributing to our Guild.

Bolts to Blocks; Jannilou Creations; Sew Hound

The 2020 Retreat Committee is getting ideas together so be ready to sign up when the time comes.  This retreat we are already adding a twist 🙂  We need 60 buttons.  Not just any buttons but buttons with pizzaz, buttons with bling, buttons with sass!!   They are for a Retreat “thing”.  They need to be at least an inch, no smaller but can be bigger.  So if you have a button that fits our needs we’ll have a button jar or basket at the General Meeting.

2020 Retreat Committee:  Georgia Sabourin, Gail Chipman, Jan McQueen & Cyndie Wenz

2020 Raffle Quilt

Ann Flescher reported at the Board Meeting that the blocks for the 2020 Raffle Quilt have been printed and the material will soon be purchased.  The Commitee would like to have the quilt ready for the Portland Expo in September.  There will be a sign-up at the General Meeting for the quilt blocks.

Quilts for Recreation Department

I’ll be returning the small quilts at the next (March) general meeting and would like floral quilts to hang until May.  They MUST have hanging sleeves!  Thanks!
