Documentation
Our next Documentation will be on Saturday May 18th at the Carriage House from 9:30-3:30.
Finishing School
Finishing School will be meeting on May 23 from 10-4 at the Carriage House at the Lincoln County Historical Museum at 545 SW 9th St. Newport. It is a great time to work on a project without being interrupted. You may bring your machine or hand work. We will have a iron there for you to use. You may come at any time and stay as long as you like. Bring a sack lunch or go out what ever you would rather do. It is also a great way to get to know other guild members and get help on a project that you need advice on. Fun time is had by all.
Membership
We know not everyone wants their information on the password protected area of the website so there will be an announcement at the membership meeting informing the membership of the intended plan to post the directory on the website. Members can request to not be included or request no street address or no birthday listed in the online directory. Contact Gail Chipman or Cheryl Kramer at the Membership Table at the general meeting. Also, you can let Ruth Johnson know your preference at: 541 590-3783 or via email: johnson.ruth@yahoo.com
Programs/Workshop
The Barn Quilt Workshop was great fun and even some non-members attended.
Quilt Show
From the quilt show co-chairs:
Who wants to be a heroine? Step right up and sign up to coordinate hanging quilts in the small gym! (This is where we usually hang the art quilts, small quilts, mentored youth quilts, the special category of “By the Sea,” etc.) You probably won’t need to enlist the help of a spouse, although they are very, very welcome and important, because we’ll have some ladder-climbing help from local youths. Let Jackie Stankey, Darcy de la Rosa, or Jean Amundson know that you’ll accept the position, and receive our thanks and praise . . .
Other facets of show planning are well underway, with all the vendor slots filled, advertising going well, sponsored ribbons being sold, and program book articles being written, as well as numerous other tasks, large and small, being tackled. Signups to take a time slot or two during judging, setup, and at the show will start this month or next. Don’t miss out on making sure that the 2019 Quilts by the Sea is another big success!

Quilt Show Registration and Photos Assistance
If you’d like us to take a photo of the quilt or quilts you plan on entering into the Quilt show we’ll be available to help you before the May and June meetings at 5:00 pm. We’ll also be coming to three of the small group meetings during the week of May 19th. We’ll be at Lincoln City Quilters on Tuesday, May 21st at 10 am – noon, Knotty Ladies on Wednesday May 22nd from 12:00-3:00 pm and Bayshore Quilters on Friday May 24th 10am-12 noon.
If you don’t have access to a computer, smart phone or tablet we’ll help you register your quilts as well during these times. If you have any questions or want me to walk you through the registration process on the phone, give me a call at (925) 963-7097. So far we have less than 20 quilts registered. The deadline for entering a quilt is July 5th, but I’d appreciate it if you can enter earlier so that I don’t have such a huge job at the last minute.
To enter your quilts go the to the guild website, choose Quilt Show under Events, and proceed from there. Policies and Categories are there, too, so you can get help choosing where to put your entries. Need more help? Contact me, Nan Scott, or one of the show co-chairs, Jackie Stankey, Darcy de la Rosa, or Jean Amundson.
Thanks! Melissa
Small Quilts for Silent Auction
Just a reminder that we need lots of small quilts for the Silent Auction at our show. These little quilts can be any size from 12” to a maximum of 18” and can be any technique or pattern that you find appealing. Half of the funds raised will go to a selected charity, and the other half to our guild. Please have them ready by the June meeting so that we can display them at the Newport Library in July. The public will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite quilt, and the maker of the winning quilt gets to choose a charity that will receive $50. Please remember to include a label on the back of your quilt, and a “Buy it Now” price, as well as your suggested opening bid.
Many thanks to all of you, Lisa Taylor
Sponsored Ribbons
Start thinking about your creative titles and the sign up sheet will be at the May meeting. The cost is still $10 to honor your quilting buddies with a Sponsored Ribbon. There are some surprises for those who sign-up early and pay on time.
SABLE
Fat quarters for the month of May are Whites and Creams.
Library Books
Our librarian, Pam Grindell has been busy doing an inventory of the storage closet and books. Please take the time to look through the books that are available to check out. Books that aren’t used will be sold.
Block of the Month
Meralee Wilson reported that Nan will teach a “Half Square Triangle” class at 5 p.m. before the May General Guild Meeting.
Veteran’s Quilt Project
Hope that lots of you can join us on Saturday, May 11 for a work party putting together tops for our veterans quilts. We will meet at Atonement Lutheran Church at 9AM and work until 3 or 4. If you can’t come for the whole day come when you can and leave when you need to. Bring your lunch or we will send out for lunch for those who want that.
We have lots of blocks and fabric. Bring your sewing machine, thread and sewing tools you use when sewing. If you don’t want to bring your machine, bring your ruler and rotary cutter. There will be lots of cutting needed.
You can work by yourself or team up with friend. If you have any questions call Twy at 541-563-3899.
