Our January Meeting Program is Our Silent Auction

Bring any quilting items, fabric, patterns, thread, sewing machines, notions you don’t need, sell them and you keep the money. Download the auction form on the website under forms. We will have a few auction sheets at the meeting. Price your items for “bid” or “Buy it now” in $.25 increments. Don’t forget to bring some change. Bargains galore will be at the meeting so don’t miss it.

Here’s a detailed explanation:

  • Download the Auction Bid Sheet on the guild website under the Records and Forms Heading.  Click on this and choose Fillable Forms and click on Auction Bid Sheet Form.  Fill out the form.  Put the name of the item at the top.  Fill in the Buy it Now Price which is the amount you’ll accept without bidding.  Add a Minimum Bid amount which is the minimum amount you’ll accept for the item.   It’s easier to price in $1.00 increments.   Click here to be redirected to Bid Sheet: http://www.oregoncoastalquilters.org/Records/OCQG%20Silent%20Auction%20Bid%20Document.pdf
  • After the bidding opens members will have 30 minutes to place bids on the items. They can enter the minimum bid or whatever they’re willing to pay.  Other members can outbid the last bid until the bidding closes or they can simply choose the Buy it Now price and the bidding will be closed.
  • There will be 15 minutes after the break to determine who the highest bidder is.  The Buyers will be rounded up and the highest bidder will need to pay the person selling the item.  This gets hectic, so if you have a bid on an item remember what it was and who the seller was.  
  • If you plan to sell bring some petty cash to make change for purchases.  Everyone should bring some cash and/or your checkbook.  
  • A Free Bin is available too for items you’d like to give away.

Thank You for Your Generosity!

The generosity of OCQG members has once again been shown by the contributions at our December potluck. We took the cash and checks totaling $363 to Food Share of Lincoln County. They will leverage those funds many times over in purchasing foods in bulk from their sources! Also, our wonderful hostess team schlepped the big bin of non-perishables upstairs to the Newport Food Pantry container. So the “bleak mid-winter” has been made a lot less bleak, thanks to you!

Teecia Cornelius will be collecting 1-3 fat quarters at the January meeting.  We pool the fabrics collected and have a drawing.  Winner takes all!

Membership

    It’s the time of year to renew your membership. Bring your $25.00/year cash or check (payable to Oregon Coastal Quilters Guild) along with your membership form from the Guild’s directory on page 16. Indicate on the form any of your contact information that has changed. (Pay $29.00 if you wish the directory mailed to you. Membership forms will be available at the Membership Table, also.)

     If you can’t attend the December or January meetings please mail a completed Membership Form and your payment to: Oregon Coastal Quilters Guild, PO Box 382, South Beach, OR 97366.

Documentation

The January documentation date was cancelled but we will be having a documentation in Lincoln City on Saturday, February 15th at The North Lincoln Co. Museum- Times–9:00am to 3:30 pm.

Twy’s Quilt was Quilt # 1900!  We’ve been documenting for 19 years and hit 1900 quilts at the last documentation of 2019!

2020 Retreat

My goodness, the 2020 Quilting in the Garden Retreat is right around the corner!!  Are you ready?  Have your projects picked out to work on?  We have a fun-filled Retreat almost ready for you with lots of prizes, lots of laughter & memories to be made.  Along with award winning quilts to be started/finished for the Quilt Show.

There will be at least one more email before the Retreat.  This one mainly will cover the class that will be available.  We will be making the bag that was at our Show & Tell at General Guild Meeting in November by Maria Hunter.  Cyndie Wenz will be teaching the class & furnishing the pattern & batting needed for a fee of $5.  Below is the list of supplies that you need to bring if participating in the class.  Please let us know if you are planning on taking the class.

Supplies needed:

  • 1/2 yard each for the bag and the lining
  • 2 fat quarter size batting (provided by Cyndie)
  • Glue stick or applique size pins
  • Thread to match.

Please email Georgia if you are going to participate in the class so Cyndie can have enough supplies.

We are having 2 games this year.  The first one you will need to bring 2 coordinating fat quarters, quilt shop quality to participate.  Please wrap your fat quarters as a gift. 

We would like everyone to participate in the second game, as the results of the contest will go to Community Quilts.

Please let me know of any allergies and/or any special needs.  There are two meal seatings: 5:30 & 6:30, please let me know if you have to eat at a special time.

Finishing School

Finishing School will be meeting on January 23 from 10 to 4 at the Carriage House at the Lincoln County Historical Museum at 545 SW 9th St, Newport. It is a great time to work on a project without being interrupted. You may bring your machine or hand work we will have an iron there for you to use. You may come at any time and stay as long as you like. Bring a sack lunch or go out what ever you would rather do. It is a great way to get to know other guild members and get help on a project that you need advice on. Fun time is had by all.

The Children’s Advocacy Annual Gala

“Alright all you quilters!  Here is your “Save The Date” flyer for the Children’s Advocacy Center 25th Annual Gala.  The date is February 15, 2020, the time is 6:00 p.m., the location is the Best Western, and the fun is going to be all night long.  Remember that Lisa Taylor has donated eight hours of quilting time to the silent auction and three beautiful quilts.  Just as exciting, Corvallis Sewing and Vacuum is donating machine repair service AND A SEWING MACHINE!  But, you can’t bid unless you’re there having a great time.  The tickets are not $90.00 per person, but $45.00 for guild members in recognition of our outstanding relationship with the Center.  I hope to see you all there!”

The Mayor’s Show

Fiber Artist and guild member Denise DeMarie has been selected to participate in the 2020 Mayors’ Show.  The show will run from January 4th – January 26th at the Runyan Gallery at the Newport Visual Arts Center.
