Face Mask Update from Community Quilters

As usual, our group has “rallied up” and responded so incredibly!  Our total count of face masks that were delivered this week was 440.  Thank you so much to all of you who sewed, donated fabric and elastic and delivered to the drop off sites. Many thanks also to Quilters Cove and Lee Palmer and Ruth’s Family Fabrics for coming up with a solution for gathering up all the items.

There are a lot of people sewing masks in our community outside of our guild, and there were literally boxes of donated items at the designated dropoff site today when I delivered our masks.  I asked if this was it, or if they were going to need more. I was told they needed a day or two to do an inventory and reassess the need, and they would get back to me.  So for now, put aside the elastic and take a breather.

Well, truth be told, I hope you don’t actually take a breather.  I got a call today from one of our members suggesting that this is a really great time to do something special as community quilters.  I have heard from more than a few of you that you are a bit bored and need something in the way of inspiration and motivation to make this time a little easier. I am working on a project(s) that I’m going to call “Porch Drops” that will be something in the way of a color-coordinated round robin that will respect social distancing but still keep us connected.  I feel many of us are sorely missing our small groups getting together and even just spending an afternoon with a fellow quilter doing a little sewing. So, keep an eye out the next couple of days on your email for more details!  Just a hint – remember our last guild speaker who makes color coordinated scrap quilts?  I challenge you to find a box, and gather up all your YELLOW scraps – details to follow soon.
