Minutes of the OCQG General Meeting via Zoom-October 8, 2020

The meeting was called to order by President Diane Tillotson at 1:00 p.m.

President Diane announced that next year’s raffle quilt design has not been selected yet, but it will hopefully include our new Dennis McGregor design of the Yaquina Bay Bridge.

Jane Szabo announced that next month’s speaker is from Canada and her topic will be about organizing work spaces. The Zoom meeting is scheduled to begin at 1:00.

Becky Mershon announced that a big order for clothing and merchandise featuring the new McGregor design will be sent to the screen print shop soon. She advised any member who would like that design printed on their currently owned fleece clothing to contact Rose Shaw to place their order. The artwork has been posted to the Guild website and pictures of it have also recently been included in the Guild blog. Denim shirts are women’s sizes; all other items are unisex sizes and run a little large. The tee shirts, sweatshirts and denim shirts are all 100% cotton and will shrink slightly when washed.  It is best to order items now to assure getting the items, colors and sizes you want. You may refer to the price and size list posted on the Guild website. It is important to note there are 2 prices: one for members; one for non-members. Guild logo merchandise can be found on the website under “Resources” at the top of the page. Then go to “Merchandise” to find what you’re looking for. Jan Bowen asked if one check will be acceptable for both membership dues and logo merchandise. For easier record keeping, 2 checks would be preferred.

Meralee Wilson said voting for 2021 officers will be via Zoom meeting in December. There are candidates for all officers except Secretary. If you can serve in this position, please contact Meralee. 

There was a reminder that membership dues are to be paid  before the end of the year. Checks and membership forms can be sent to the Guild’s post office box. Remember to include an additional $4.00 for postage and envelope to mail the handbook.

The meeting program was introduced by Jane Szabo and Janet DeSau. 6 members  volunteered to show their workspaces/sewing rooms/studios and innovative aspects within those spaces. All was shared via pre-recorded video by the following members:

Dolores Wagner thanked everyone for sharing their spaces; Joanne Ballantyne offered her thanks via text.

Lindanne Perdue and Jan McQueen said the last open house at the Community Quilts work room in Waldport was attended by about 35 people. There will be another open house November 5. They will have quilt kits, quilts to bind, and pillow case kits ready for pick up there. They also shared that Lee Palmer has purchased a long arm quilting machine which is available for quilting community quilts. It resides in her building in Waldport. It has an instructional CD video for those who would like to learn to use it. A big thanks to Lee for her generosity.

Veterans’ Quilt Project Committee has block kits ready for pick up at Quilters Cove in Newport and at Sew Hound in Siletz.

Terry Mast has a sewing machine with table for sale: $3500. Her contact information is in the Guild handbook.

Georgia Sabourin reported that a co-worker’s grandmother recently died in Kentucky. She has many quilt tops to donate. They are coming to Oregon from Kentucky.

  1. Karen Donobedian showed a “Salem Witches” wall quilt designed by Crabapple Hill. She created it with piecing, crayons and machine embroidery.
  2. Marge Hoyt showed her “Woodland Critters,” a fusible raw edge applique quilt.
  3. Shari Stewart showed two items she will donate to Community Quilts. “Jeweled,” a Moda pre-cut stacks quilt and “Tuscan Sun” a JoAnn Fabrics Block of the Month quilt. Both were quilted by Phyllis Mitchell.
  4. Jane Szabo showed a red and white Feathered Stars quilt she first began in a class taught by Marsha McCloskey.
