As a strategy to promote our annual quilt show, we are having a small exhibit of art quilts at the Newport Visual Arts Center from July 3-27 in the Upstairs Gallery. Tina McCann, Gloria Zirges and Janet Webster coordinated the exhibit by calling on Guild ribbon winners who create art quilts. We selected this category as the best fit for the Visual Arts Center in terms of the space and the mission of the Center. In future years, we could focus on a different category if there’s interest. We have 12 Guild members represented and probably 12- 15 quilts. Tom Webb, the director of the VAC, is hanging the show as well as handling the publicity. It should be positive way to get the word out e on the August big show.
The Upstairs Gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 12-4. Volunteers often staff the gallery, so if you have a free afternoon in July, please contact Janet Webster (janet.webster@charter.net, 541-265-6919). It’s a great spot to set up your machine or take your handwork, and work while chatting with visitors.
