2026 OCQG Challenge 2026 Semiquincentennial Challenge

The 2026 challenge is to honor the 250th birthday of the United States.

Theme:  “America the Beautiful” using a National Park, Monument, or something similar like Multnomah Falls which is neither, but a beautiful scenic wonder as your inspiration.

Rules:

  1. The quilt can be any shape, but not more than 120” in circumference or perimeter.
  2. It must be made entirely by the entrant
  3. It must have a hanging sleeve, and the quilt maker’s name must be on the back of the quilt, covered by a piece of paper.
  4. Entrants may use any type of construction:  piecing, applique, hand or machine-quilted.  (not tied)
  5. Must contain the American flag.  The flag can be from any period in US history such as the original Betsy Ross flag of 13 stars or today’s flag.  The flag can be located anywhere on your quilt, even the label.
  6. Additional embellishments are allowed as desired.
  7. A ½ page sheet (typed) telling the quilt’s story is required.
  8. A picture of your completed quilt AND your quilt’s story must be submitted to Nan Scott (Nan.Scott@oregonstate.edu) by 6/1/26.  Include the entrant’s name, the name of the quilt, and the dimensions.
  9. Voting will be done online.
  10. 10. Quilts must be turned in no later than the June 2026 guild meeting and will be displayed at both the June and July general meetings.  (Either bring it to the meeting or give it to one of the challenge coordinators.
  11. 11. The challenges will be hung together at the 2026 Quilt Show.  They must be picked up at the end of the show, unless other arrangements have been made beforehand.
